If you’re an identity theft victim, follow the steps in Resource, as well as these tips. If you’re not yet an identity theft victim, or if you’re not sure if you’re a victim, follow these tips, the first four tips are the most important.

Tip 1: Watch at least 5 videos from this site, so you learn terms of identity theft and what to watch for.

Tip 2: Shred your personal information before you put it in the trash. Use a cross cut or better shredder.

Tip 3: Get a P.O. box, also place out going mail only in slot or box inside the post office.

Tip 4: Do not carry information with your social security number on it.

Tip 5: Install anti-virus, anti-spy ware, and firewall software to your computer.
Tip 6: Do not sign your credit cards, instead mark them see photo I. D.

Tip 7: Use only ATM's located at your bank, and always double check for skimmers, discoloration, wires and other added devices.

Tip 8: If banking online, change your password regularly.

Tip 9: Don’t give out your date of birth.

Tip 10: Carry only those credit cards you know you will use that day, leave rest at home in a safe place. When using your card make sure it stays in your sight, and watch for yellow or carbon copies.

Tip 11: Never respond to an email link, even if the email looks like it came from bank or credit company you know. Instead go to the original site with another browser window, make sure the site is secure, then log into your account to verify the information. (Form of phishing).

Tip 12: Even though it’s your home computer, add a password to access it.
