Check Fraud - Call your bank and have checking your account closed. Don’t forget to contact those with automatic withdrawals. When opening a new account, don’t print social security number, drivers license, phone number or birth date on checks. Do not have new checks mailed to your house, instead pick them up at the bank. With check fraud your checks were being signed by someone other then yourself, it’s possible someone also has a drivers license with your information, their picture, watch for criminal and drivers license identity theft. The bank may be able to provide you with copies of their videos, or photos of the person using your name.

Check your credit report for identity theft., inaccuracies, and fraudulent use of accounts, addresses you never lived at, etc. Contact the three major credit bureaus and have them put a fraud alert on your file, if you find discrepancies. By notifying one agency of fraudulent activity, you will notify all three. Please note a fraud alert is only good for 90 days, and 20% of credit processes during an alert won’t be checked properly. In addition many thieves will reroute the fraud alert calls. A copy of your credit report is vital to your identity theft recovery. The monitoring of your credit report will show a majority of fraud in your name, but not all. For example, synthetic or criminal and drivers license identity theft will not show up when you check your credit report. ).
At least once a year check your child’s credit report. There are many kids becoming victims of identity theft, and most won’t know until they apply for a job, credit, or collage. (See report posted S-1/22/2008)
