In another case a dishonest paralegal stole the identity and business cards of an attorney. Fifty miles away the paralegal opened an office, pretending to be the attorney. She was using the attorney's character to steal the identity of the attorney's clients. Even though she was an attorney, it took the real attorney over two years to clear her name & credit. See report #9. Often illegal immigrants work with your social security number and your drivers license. One of the greatest challenges of identity theft is that most people believe "IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN TO ME". The other challenge is that many government agencies, credit card companies, banks and others know you’re a victim long before you do. MSNBC reporter Bob Sullivan said "Several government agencies and private corporations sometimes know whose Social Security numbers are being ripped off, they won't notify the victims. That is, until they come after the victims for back taxes or unpaid loans owed by the impostor." Later in the same report he states, "None of the agencies involved are trying to tackle the problem because they all benefit from it, as does corporate America. The IRS and Social Security collect extra taxes, lenders sell more loans and employers get inexpensive workers." Some people don't even find out for ten years later. Read report #13
